Quiet Radicalism Article Response

Updated: Dec 12, 2022

Everyone has a different idea of the perfect work-to-home life balance. That being said, this article highlights how business owner Lauren Bacon has found more people care about their quality of life over the number of zeros they see on their paychecks. Newer generations have different priorities than older generations. Younger people want to experience new things, create memories, and spend time with family and friends. People nowadays are choosing lifestyle over work, thus Lauren Bacon has shifted away from hiring the average 9-5 worker. Instead, she employs people that best fit into her business and provides her workers with a flexible work-to-home lifestyle.

After the Covid-19 pandemic, many workers fell in love with remote work. It offers flexibility, freedom, and cost savings. Most people could not imagine returning to work after experiencing the benefits of remote work. That being said, companies are moving towards a better work-to-life balance otherwise their employee retention will start to plummet. Companies transitioning to a better balance are more appealing to employees by offering balance, freedom, and flexibility. Lauren Bacon believes that this transition away from a regular 9-5 will increase employee retention and I would have to agree. Times are evolving and companies must adapt to what workers are wanting.
